Normalised Rewriting and Normalised Completion

چکیده

We introduce normalised rewriting, a new rewrite relation. It generalises former notions of rewriting modulo E, dropping some conditions on E. For example , E can now be the theory of identity, idempo-tency, the theory of Abelian groups, the theory of com-mutative rings. We give a new completion algorithm for normalised rewriting. It contains as an instance the usual AC completion algorithm, but also the well-known Buchberger's algorithm for computing standard bases of polynomial ideals. We investigate the particular case of completion of ground equations, In this case we prove by a uniform method that completion modulo E terminates, for some interesting E. As a consequence, we obtain the decidability of the word problem for some classes of equational theories. We give implementation results which shows the eeciency of normalised completion with respect to completion modulo AC.

Development of temporal and distance parameters of gait in normal children.

Temporal and distance parameters of 33 normal children were obtained from instrumented gait analysis prospectively over five consecutive years. The parameters were normalised to minimise the confounding effects of increasing height and leg length. Rank correlations were performed on normalised speed, normalised stride length, normalised cadence and normalised walk ratio across consecutive pairs...

Rewrite Systems for Natural, Integral, and Rational Arithmetic

We give algebraic presentations of the sets of natural numbers , integers, and rational numbers by convergent rewrite systems which moreover allow eecient computations of arithmetical expressions. We then use such systems in the general normalised completion algorithm, in order to compute Grrbner bases of polynomial ideals over Q.

Comparison between Normalised and Unnormalised 454-Sequencing Libraries for Small-Scale RNA-Seq Studies

Next-generation sequencing of transcriptomes (RNA-Seq) is being used increasingly in studies of nonmodel organisms. Here, we evaluate the effectiveness of normalising cDNA libraries prior to sequencing in a small-scale study of the zebra finch. We find that assemblies produced from normalised libraries had a larger number of contigs but used fewer reads compared to unnormalised libraries. Consi...

LMI approach to normalised HN loop-shaping design of power system damping controllers

Application of the normalised HN loop-shaping technique for design and simplification of damping controllers in the LMI framework is illustrated. A linearised model of the power system is preand post-compensated using the loop-shaping approach. The problem of robust stabilisation of a normalised coprime factor plant description is translated to a generalised HN problem. The solution is sought n...

Normalised flood losses in Europe : 1970 – 2006

This paper presents an assessment of normalised flood losses in Europe for the period 1970–2006. Normalisation provides an estimate of the losses that would occur if the floods from the past take place under current societal conditions. Economic losses from floods are the result of both societal and climatological factors. Failing to adjust for time-variant socio-economic factors produces loss ...
